Since slavery, opportunities for Black Barbers and Beauticians have historically allowed a certain degree of financial independence for the service provider, their families and their community. While a few famous stories have been told through the years, there are numerous stories of Black people who have made great accomplishments in Beauty, that remain untold, hidden, if you will.
My name is Miki Wright and I’ve held almost every role you can imagine in the salon industry. I started as a struggling newbie who went on to become an award winning Hair Stylist, to then owning of one of the country’s 200 fastest growing salons. I’m second generation in this industry and have been a top Educator over 30 years, and I am still helping Independent Hairstylists to become true Beauty Entrepreneurs and reach their 6 figure goals.
My current passion is interviewing and celebrating Black Artists and Entrepreneurs who are excelling in the Beauty Industry on the Beauty SuperStars Talk Podcast. This is more than just another show, it is about creating a legacy by giving voice to inspiring, yet often unacknowledged, stories of Black Artists and Entrepreneurs in Beauty.
Beauty SuperStars Talk brings weekly interviews that:
- Salute excellence in the Beauty Industry
- Capture first person accounts of Living Legends in the Industry
- Preserve vital Black History
- Prepare tomorrow’s Beauty Entrepreneurs to thrive and lead
- Heal and grow the entire Beauty Industry towards appreciation, understanding and acceptance of various textures of hair, and what it means to be diverse and inclusive.
The initial response to these interviews has been extremely encouraging. The interviews are with Living Legends, experienced and younger Black Beauty Professionals. Comments express that they are inspiring, educational and entertaining. The aim is to increase the reach and impact of the podcast and to quickly interview as many Living Legends as possible, to tell their own stories, in their own words and capture this precious slice of history.
Beauty SuperStars Talk provides hope, access and mentorship for beauty enthusiasts. Any level of contribution to support this cause is greatly appreciated. There is no amount that is too small, contributions can start at $1 a month. Thank you for your generosity.

Of course, the more people we can reach and inspire with these interviews, the better. Especially as the Beauty Industry, as well as the world tries to navigate it's way through the current pandemic. Our industry was particularly hard hit, as many Hair Stylists and Barbers have not been trained with basic financial literacy and tend to earn, then spend, without saving. Assuming they would be able to earn more, tomorrow. When most states faced 'shutdowns' there was panic and some that risked their lives to earn a livelihood, even when it wasn't safe or legal. Beauty SuperStars Talk offers options, opportunities and support to earn in less traditional ways, such as Retailing products to clients and others, providing online training for clients at a cost, providing hope through the stories of others who have survived challenging circumstances and have gone on to thrive.
We are looking to run engagement ads daily on Facebook and potentially other Social Media. Your contribution will allow us to fund the first phase.
Basic Support Team
In order to continue producing quality shows, week afte week, a support team is needed. An Assistant is needed to prepare and take care of the details for a weekly show. In addition, some editing is needed for many of the shows and hiring someone who is proficient with that skill is the most efficient way for the show to run. We appreciate your support as we strive to provide a quality show that is inspiring, educational and entertaining.
Additional Support Staff
As we continue producing quality shows, week afte week, more support and marketing is needed. A Marketing and Social Media Assistant is needed to promote and take care of the details for a weekly show. In addition, publicity is needed as well.
