95.5 FM, Marshall, North Carolina. Serving the Great Smokey Mountains of Western North Carolina. For 8 years, Mr. Held has been producing the Magic Mushroom Hour for WART Listeners. Envisioned as a late-night progressive music venue playing music that has not been heard on any FM Station for decades, Omega (Mr. Held) has expanded to not only 60s and 70's music to a more progressive-oriented 2-hour-long play program airing nightly from midnight until 2 A.M. With great care Omega tries to mimic the weirdness of early late-night rock stations. All the sets played each night are remastered to achieve the best sound for the listeners' song by song. As for any public station, equipment is expensive, and to further the impact and sound Omega desires, new equipment could be utilized to achieve the sound the public deserves. Assist Omega building his stations!
Omega's design is to create funding to purchase much more sophisticated equipment to achieve the maximum sound quality for the listener. The master plan is to expand the public station to other domiciled areas around the United States to reach more local listeners. This all takes funding. The equipment now Omega uses basically is a couple of old computers and low end microphones without proper stands and support which limits the voice quality and amount of verbal input during the taping of the show. Omega also would like to create videos of the taping of the shows and actually have a board to remaster the music. All the music is high quality now but the ease and functionality of the equipment leave room for an enormous expansion of the quality and quantity of the shows. New computers, a mixing board, Microphones and stands, and actual radio broadcast equipment would be amazing. So far for 8 years, Omega has bought everything needed to create what he does now. This includes the costs of software and broadcast time. Help us put together something special as a legacy of the amazing music produced in the 60s and 70s by some of the World's best rock musicians with unmatched creativity.
Full time programming
For the last 8 years, Omega has worked around 70 hours a week away from the station to fund these programs. Usually, to achieve production goals this means recording and editing late at night and very early in the morning. Omega would love to spend full-time researching, editing, and producing shows. His goal is expansion around the United States of public radio stations to better serve the public. If and when the expansion of public radio stations is achieved this will mean a full-time workload. When public stations state they are non-profit that means after salaries are paid. When we say nonprofit we mean there is no profit and no salaries. This is all for the love of community and love of music.
