Nick Flanagan, Weakly view podcast

Hi! I'm Nick. I'm a comedian, writer and actor. I've written for television and also extensively about music.  I'm from Toronto but have lived in LA and toured in Europe and all over Canada and the US when I sang in punk bands like Brutal Knights. I host and produce Nick Flanagan, Weakly a four-times-a-week podcast recorded in my room, where I speak over royalty-free relaxing music - sometimes provided by live musicians like Emilie Mover & Ayal Senior.

My past few years have been tumultuous and interesting - in 2014 I was diagnosed with ADHD and didn't address it as best I could, although at the time I thought what I was doing was enough. It turns out that even with therapy and medication, I needed to examine all factors of the disorder to really understand what I was going through, and that didn't happen until now.  It's still very difficult at times but it feels incredibly empowering to learn more and connect with others who have the disorder. It also feels great helping people understand the extent that ADHD - especially when diagnosed late - can affect one's life. I've been lucky enough to move in with my mom and put most of my time into dealing with mental health. It's like a depressive sitcom!

In 2015 my family suffered a serious loss - my father passed away from cancer five years after his initial diagnosis. At the same time, my working papers for the US were approved. So I went to LA amidst grief and confusion. Things didn't go as well as I hope, but I had many nice times and made lots of great friends. Because of visa issues and the overwhelming need to address my brain screaming at me all the time, I had to leave and now I'm making a fairly serious go at putting it all back together. With the help of my mom.

After dealing with mental health right off the bat (not a terribly funny story!), I decided to start the Nick Flanagan, Weakly podcast as a means of catharsis, an attempt at entertaining others and doing one of the things I love - blabbing about a range of things.

This Patron account is primarily to continue allowing me to record the podcast 4 times a week. It's a big time commitment but I get so much out of it and I hope listeners do too.  With your support I'll be able to get professional sound recording for my musical episodes, have professional editing and camera work so I can get top quality Youtube content, and generally have an easier time bringing you something great.

This project will happen with or without monetary support - but right now I have no budget for graphic design, camera work, editing and productions, paying guests, better gear (although I'm REALLY enjoying the gear I have, I do have my eye on better mics and cameras, and could ideally get a super new computer), and seeking advertising. I'd also like having money for sandwiches and membership to PS Plus/Spotify/all the horrible costs of living these days.

Essentially: I'd really like to keep providing this to you and the more support I get, the easier it'll be for me to do that.

At the moment there is one $5 tier - with that I'll provide supporter-only perks, posts, articles and episodes. I have experience as a writer of reviews and interviews and would be happy to provide some for supporters, as well as patron-only meditation podcasts and video content.
