I'm preserving and sharing the album rock of the 60s and 70s and having fun doing it! Please support me! Thank you for your time to hear my ask.
My podcast is Tales Vinyl Tells. It’s about the stories that are told by vinyl record albums released in the 1960s and 1970s. Whether it’s the melody, the lyrics, the musician’s interpretation of the composer or the great recording itself, there are so many recordings that deserve another visit, another dive into the artists and the stories that just may not have been well known. There are many of those. Like Abbey Road, The Summer of Love, Big Sur, Haight Ashbury, Laurel Canyon, Electric Ladyland, Criterion, The Wrecking Crew, The British Invasion. Times and places like those created the Tales that a Vinyl record Tells.
In 1969 I had the privilege to work with a radio station staff in south Florida that switched a powerful easy listening FM station into a gang busting underground/progressive rocker and we had a music library that more than filled the large studio. Through music promoters and record companies, we all got promos and cutouts (as they're sometimes called because of the nip in the jacket/cover) and of course I bought a lot of new LPs (and 8 track tapes) as they hit the market. When the station owner ended its run, the library was split up among the last programmers. We all captured classics and oddities. My personal music library grew and over time I was having some personal challenges, my record library was given into the custody of a friend and 25+ years later he offered them back under the non-binding condition that I do a podcast with them. He even alphabetized the library….on paper. In December 2019, the first Tales Vinyl Tells was uploaded to my girlfriend's website, which is a yoga business, StudioMillsWellness.com. It wasn’t the biggest hit but some of our friends friends friends did dig what I was doing. Maybe they were just being nice.
In March 2022, I applied for and was offered an hour spot once a week on commercial-free and donor-supported RadioFreeNashville and I now put together and air my show/podcast weekly, playing many LP cuts from my personal collection. Because WRFN pays the copyrighters, SESAC, BMI and ASCAP, I'm able to use whatever music I choose and try not to get too serious or political. I research for back history and stories of this generation of music, which I think is one of the most creative and expressive eras in history. There are a lot of time of hours put into each episode, as I usually seem to have a theme, tunes come into my head, I read, I dig deep into the sources and compress it all into a one hour show that I think is of very good quality and full of information. Though I love going into the station studio and do the show live, I do have a small home studio which allows me to produce a show at home here outside Nashville or in the Florida sunshine in winter and still get the hour up to the station, thanks to technology. After the live shows, I download it, take it home to edit/listen/balance and post the new episodes across 3 Facebook pages, email to a still small list and upload through Podbean.com, which now feeds my podcast to Apple, Google, Spotify, iHeart, ListenNotes, TuneIn and more.
I'm asking for your support because I feel the music I share is important to preserve for future generations to hear. This baby boomer generation grew up with the music I share and the stories I bring. It's truly classic and the messages are very clear that it's all about peace, love and rock and roll. I have expenses for the equipment, used LP purchases, subscriptions for the podcasting service and sound/editing software and I would like to make some actual income and not depend on the physical work I’ve done in the past as a California contractor and home remodeler. I personally support many good causes that promote justice, equality, fairness and peace, as well as policy makers who represent my positive vibrations' highest good. Please consider supporting my mission by financially contributing and by sharing my podcast with others. I hope you'll listen to a recent podcast of Tales Vinyl Tells and find the goodness and quality I offer. We're on episode #89 as I write this and have played over 1,000 tunes to date and only repeat some that are of the highest importance and honored as such, and I mention those achievements in the podcast. Thanks for reading and listening! My hopes are that you will help sustain my efforts to continue sharing the great music and stories that the singers, songwriters and musicians wanted to convey. After all, they are the Tales Vinyl Tells. Thank you. I am looking forward to your generous support.
I need your support to upgrade equipment and expand my podcast!
My podcast started in my home studio. It's small and sparse. I took a door slab and set it on top of two filing cabinets, bought a Behringer mixer, a microphone kit, a couple AudioTech turntables and subscribed to Adobe's Creative Cloud, having found Audacity, which was free, not quite what I wanted to use for adaptability. I research, write, record, edit and upload the archived radio shows. I am flying solo. For more than 2 years in the beginning, I recorded the whole podcast in my studio, uploaded on to my girlfriend's yoga website and when I started the live radio show, I could immediately after download the show, bring it home to edit and balance and now I upload to the yoga website and podbean.com which feeds Tales Vinyl Tells to about 10 podcast apps, like Apple, Google, Spotify, Amazon Audible, ListenNotes and more.
My expenses include internet access, monthly Creative Cloud usage, shopping used LPs, and my laptop is very important to making this all happen. My MacBook Air is 6 years old and I would like to upgrade my computing capability to a newer Mac, preferably an iMac as a larger screen and greater computing ability makes editing the sound files easier to see. I would also like to upgrade my mixer to equipment that allows 5 -8 inputs including a cuing channel so I can live mix rather than mixing files in Adobe Audition, which takes lots of time and memory. It also would give realism to the "live" concept of spinning discs and live mixing on-air. I can actually go do a live show at RadioFreeNashville and it's possible to put a show together remotely and upload to a server airing at the regular time. That can be done from anywhere in the world.
The music of the baby boomers is so worthy of sharing and preserving. The back stories about all those involved in those recordings adds to the realness of that great era in time. I want to spend more time researching and planning for expanding the format I use to keep up the momentum. As of this time, there have been over 1,000 downloads of Tales Vinyl Tells and it has been heard in at least 18 countries.
Thank you for considering me to receive your financial assistance.
